This is a huge shout out and THANK YOU to all of the tireless volunteers in the Telkwa Fire Department Telkwa Fire Rescue! Please have a close look at all of the faces in this photo. While the rest of the Village has been going about their routine business, our fire department has been dealing with an unprecedented volume of structural and wildland fires, medical aid calls and road rescues. It hasn't been just a brief time that this has been happening- the entire year has been extremely busy! While they are dedicated volunteers who enjoy the experience and camaraderie of the crew, this recent run has definitely taken its toll. Residents should be aware that each time there is a call-out, there is not only the time and the emotional and physical energy that goes into the call itself. There is also the not-so-fun part of inventorying the medical equipment, cleaning, testing and reloading the hoses, cleaning the turnout gear and trucks etc. Some of the calls themselves become quite an epic test of stamina, such as the structure fire last week which required personnel on site for 10 hours. And additionally, they still get together every Wednesday to practice their skills, rain or shine! This is time taken from their work, recreation time and family time, volunteering to serve our community. We should all honour that. Have another look at all of the faces in this photo, and when you see them around town, in line at the grocery store, or at their place of work, please, take a moment to thank them for what they do so selflessly for us. And please, if you haven't thought about it already, consider volunteering for the Fire Department. It's a great experience, you learn some very valuable skills, and it's one of the best opportunities to give back to your friends, neighbours and the community as a whole.
